Our History

Green Mountain Software was founded in 1993 — just after Apple introduced the Newton MessagePad. Lou Krieg, the company's founder, went to MacWorld in search of ideas for a new software company. One look at the Newton — and the decision was simple.

The Newton put the power of computing in the hands of the rest of us.

The Newton was small, lightweight for its day and powerful. With each new generation it became more so. It was a joy to program for— relatively speaking— a joy to use— and unlike most dead platforms it still commands a hefty price on eBay. It represented a paradigm shift in computing. While PCs put the power of computing on our desktops, PDAs put the power— and simplicity— of computing into the hands of the rest of us.

We were inspired to build high quality mobile applications.

So as the Newton came into our lives we set about to build the best applications for mobile computing in the land— applications that are innovative, useful and of the highest quality. As new platforms emerged, we embraced them. We were among the first companies to win a contract to program for Windows CE, and we began developing for the Palm from its inception.

We applied the goodness of the Newton to the Palm and Pocket PC.

We applied what we learned from building powerful applications for the Newton to the Palm, Pocket PC platforms… and now the iPhone. Green Mountain Software-developed applications all have key elements in common— regardless of the platform. Intuitive User Interfaces— the kind novices pick up and use from the get-go. Seamless integration with the desktop and web environment. Reliable and fast communications.

We still have a passion for building insanely great applications.

Fifteen years later? We still have a passion for building the highest quality applications for mobile computing in the land. We truly enjoy learning about you, your business and how we can help. And we love the process of working with you to bring your vision to life through a well-thought-out technical implementation.
